Chuy’s Guide to Houston, TX

Written & curated by his human, @rebeccabanduh

Howdy from Houston! Chuy and I have spent years exploring our beautiful city. Inspired by all Houston has to offer, I began creating love letters to each Houston neighborhood and what makes each of them so special.

Some of the sweetest moments are the ones I’ve been able to share with Chuy. From coffee shops, parks, and restaurants, these are the places we cherish that allow us to create memories together:

The Place We Love: Buffalo Bayou Park

Why We Love It: Just west of downtown, you’ll find winding paths nestled in the 160 acres of Buffalo Bayou Park. This is the perfect spot to get away from all the hustle and bustle without having to leave the city. The park has so much to offer from beautiful gardens to a dog park with a pond and public art. This is our favorite place to catch views and walk the trail for miles! The perfect starting point is Eleanor Tinsley Park which includes a sand volleyball court.

The Place We Love: Mamaka Bowls

Why We Love It: One of our go-to spots to beat the year-round Texas heat! Mamaka Bowls is such a cool shop for smoothies, acai bowls, and coffee. The bowls are full of super fresh fruit. With plenty of outdoor seating, it’s the perfect place for your dog to tag along. The best part is how friendly the owners are.

The Place We Love: Tenfold Coffee

Why We Love It: Our neighborhood coffee shop! We love spending our mornings walking over to Tenfold and grabbing an iced vanilla latte with oat milk. They recently made updates to their exterior by adding a sunshade with plenty of outdoor seating. We cannot get enough of this place because of the sense of community! Bonus: They offer latte art classes.

Memorial Park

The Place We Love:  Memorial Park – Eastern Glades

Why We Love It: To say we are obsessed with this park is an understatement. A boardwalk surrounding a lake and wetlands make this an absolute gem. Chuy loves staring into the lake to admire the ducks, turtles, and fish! The Seymour Lieberman Trail here is for pedestrians only and stocked with dog water stations. The wooded areas make you feel as though you are being transported to a national park!

The Place We Love: St. Arnold's Brewing Company

Why We Love It: St. Arnolds is a major Houston staple! You can catch us in their massive beer garden with a pint in hand. Whether you’re in search of a brew or food, they ‘ve got you covered. Their Strawberry Kiwi Cider is life-changing as is their root beer, amber ale, and pretty much everything on their menu! My personal order is the truffle fries and major mushroom pizza.

The Place We Love:The Pit Room

Why We Love It: Would this be a Texas guide without BBQ? Not only is this place delicious, their outdoor patio is pet friendly! In the morning, try their delicious breakfast tacos filled with brisket and hashbrown! In the afternoon, get their amazing, Chuy-approved BBQ!
