The Best Food for Your Dog (Is the Least Processed One)

As dog parents, we’ve all asked ourselves: which dog food is best?

Hint: It’s likely the one that’s the least processed.

A Raw Food Diet is the most biologically appropriate, nutrient-rich, and unprocessed nutrition for your dog. Plus, it’s high in protein and low in carbohydrates.

To keep things simple, think of Maev as an apple straight from the tree. What you see is what you get (think: real ingredients like beef, chicken, and whole fruits and vegetables). Nothing artificial.

To ensure they’re getting complete and balanced meals every day, your dog’s diet should be:

  • biologically appropriate.

    • Translation: Their diet should be formulated according to what’s best for their gastrointestinal system, the canine microbiome, and any life stage or breed-specific needs.

  • rigorously tested for quality and purity of ingredients.

    • Every brand’s certifications and quality control varies, but Maev Raw Food is PhD-Vet Formulated, USDA-Certified, AAFCO-Approved, Human-Grade, and rigorously tested for E.coli, Salmonella, Listeria, and Micro (APCs).

  • low in carbohydrates and high in protein.

    • Look at your dog’s nutrition label very closely.

  • high in moisture content.

    • Fact: Dogs receive most of their daily water intake through their food, not their water bowl. It’s vital that the foods you feed them contain moisture to help keep them hydrated and to support regular BMs.

  • formulated with clean, unprocessed whole foods.

    • Example: lean proteins, leafy greens, and berries. Avoid high-heat processed foods (like kibble, freeze-dried, and even fresh). Why? High temperatures lead to nutrient degradation.

  • formulated with scientifically studied ingredients.

    • Example: all 9 essential amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, bovine colostrum, probiotics, and for senior dogs, chondroitin and glucosamine.
